BPJAMSOSTEK Eases the Payment Process for Thousands of Informal Workers With Xendit Recurring Payment

About BPJAMSOSTEK

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, or BPJAMSOSTEK, is a public legal entity in Indonesia that focuses on providing social security protection for Indonesian workers. BPJAMSOSTEK provides 5 types of benefit programs covering 4 main segments of Indonesian workers. One of these groups is Non-Wage Recipient Workers (BPU), consisting of informal workers ranging from entrepreneurs and freelancers to personal chauffeurs and domestic helpers.

Challenges

Difficulties in making payments contribute to low participation among BPU workers

Unlike wage recipients (formal workers or PU) who are collectively enrolled through their companies and have contribution payments made through the companies, BPU workers have to register and make payments individually on their own. This is an inconvenience on top of workers’ already busy and tiring days. As a result, the participation rate is low, leaving millions of these workers vulnerable.

BPJAMSOSTEK has been on a constant journey to increase the participation of BPU workers in its program. Among its initiatives was enabling digital payment methods for premium payments.

However, enabling one-time digital payment methods is not sufficient. Workers still have to remember to make payments before the due dates each month, and they have to manually initiate the payment process each time. If they forget to pay, they risk having their protection lapse in the meantime.

Solution

Ease of payment through automated recurring payments feature

Xendit supports BPJAMSOSTEK in creating a seamless and secure payment experience through the recurring payments feature.

Participants can now make their payments through a scheduled auto-debit every month via BRI Direct Debit and various top e-wallets in Indonesia such as DANA, OVO, and ShopeePay.

To activate this, participants only need to authorize and link their payment details once before the first transaction. After that, they will get a notification every month in the JMO (Jamsostek Mobile) application, and the funds will be automatically debited.

Result

Improved payment experience for thousands of BPU participants in just one month

Within a month of activating recurring payments with Xendit, thousands of BPU participants have activated auto-debit to enjoy a convenient, seamless payment experience for their contribution payments.

With this automation, participants no longer have to remember to make payments on time or go through the cumbersome process of making the payments.
